Different country, different food. You may find eating particular food like worms or crocodile is bizarre, but hey.. not in other country. Below is the list of my top 5 most bizarre Asian food delicacies that you may want to try next time you travel in Asia.

1. Duck Embryo aka Balut

balut_eggOne of the best of Asian delicacies. This is very popular in Kambodia, Laos, Vietnam, and other asian countries. So if you’re from one of those countries, you will not find this food as bizarre. ;) Balut Popularly believed to be an aphodisiac and considered a high-protein and hearty snack. Balut is mostly sold in traditional market or by street vendors in the regions where they are available in Asia.

2. Hundred Year Century Egg  or preserved egg.

century_egg-thumb-400x400-5013 Century egg is a Chinese cuisine. Its ingredient made by preserving duck, chicken or quail eggs in a mixture of clay, ash, salt, lime, and rice straw for several weeks to several months, depending on the method of processing. After the process is completed, the yolk becomes a dark green, cream-like substance with a strong odor of sulphur and ammonia(smells like shit), while the white ecomes a dark brown, transparent jelly with little flavour or taste. yukss..

3. Stinky Tofu

at_a_stinky_tofu_stall-thumb-400x300-5015Tofu is one of my fav food. But for stinky tofu is a big no-no. This food is very famous in HOngkong, Taiwan, Indonesia and China. As the  name suggests, it has a very strong odor and smells like toilet that hasn’t been cleaned for a month. From a distance, many said the odor of stinky tofu is said to resemble that of rotten garbage or manure, even by its enthusiasts. Stinky tofu is made by marinating them into fermented milk, meat and vegetables for as long as several months. As you can see in the picture, that boy looks not really enjoy it.

4. Sea Cucumber

They have been eating this oblong shaped gelatinous blob of an animal for many many centuries. In Chinese cuisine, Sea cucumber usually cooked by stir fried in black pepper sauce, stewed with ribs, or boiled in chicken stocks.

5. Durian Fruit

durian-thumb-400x471-5007Durian Fruit can best be described as having a succulent, creamy filling but smelling like stinky socks. The edible flesh of Durian emits a distinctive odour, strong and penetrating even when the husk is intact. Some people regard the durian as fragrant; others find the aroma overpowering and offensive. In many Asian countries, travelling in the airplane with Durian is forbidden.
