I’m really sorry but I have no insurance after being laid off and can’t do anything but try and use common sense. If anyone sees this and is able to advice on how I know if I have a broken foot or maybe just a sprain or something I’d really be grateful.
I slipped and when I hit the floor the top of my left foot banged down with weight on it at an awkward angle. That little bone on the top of my foot between the toes and the ankle turned black and swelled up into a big round knot but my toes wiggle.
It’s painful but I’ve been trying to walk on it about 5 minutes every hour since it happened 6 hours ago because I think it might be important to keep blood flowing.
It’s hard to walk on it. Should I keep doing so? I really appreciate this. I wish I could afford to go to the doctor but I just can’t.
Thanks.

You really can’t tell without an xray. But it’s always best to treat it as if it’s broken if you don’t know. And if it’s just fractured and you keep walking on it, it can break. The bad part is, if it’s broken and needs setting, you’ll end up with problems.
I’d stay off it at least a few days and see how it is if I was unsure. And being able to wiggle your toes isn’t an indication of whether you’ve fractured or broken something in your foot.
I would say rest it, do not walk on it. Walking on it doesn’t have anything to do with ‘blood flow’. Let it rest, don’t put pressure on, elevate it once in awhile.
The number one thing you can do is to ice it. Ice for 15 minutes at a time, with a cloth between the ice and the foot so you don’t freezer burn the skin. take ice off for 20 or 30 minutes and ice again. Keep icing in whatever intervals you can for several day.
Take Advil for pain.
