Eating or Drinking too much fruit smoothies Bad or makes you Fat?
Is there such a thing as eating too much fruit? It’s summer and I’m big on fruit smoothies and iced tea. I buy fresh fruit, wet it down, stick it in the freezer and let it get icy, then stick it in the juicer-no sugar and no ice cream. I must have had 4 heaping glasses yesterday of smoothies.
Answer
If you are eating a well balanced diet and this is a seasonal thing, I wouldn’t worry. It’s hot out and it’s better than loading up on ice cream.
If you start getting extra belly flab, then you know your body is reacting in a bad way – putting out excess insulin from too much sugar. The excess insulin will pack fat onto the fat cells of the belly area. Eating fruit with meals helps those who are carb sensitive – it slows down the rate of sugar absorption.
4 pints of fruit? That’s like 2 liters i.e. 2 kg about a pound of fruit a day. Do you feel light headed after a couple days of this? That’s because of the sugar, which is all getting turned into fat as you consume a pound of it a day due to lipogenesis unless you exercise a lot a day too.
Then you will need protein from yogurt – not the commercial crap, the raw yogurt that says “milk, lactobacilli” on the carton. You need about a liter of yogurt a day.
That would help keep protein from being leached off your muscles due to lack of protein intake. You’ll also need extra EFAs — try adding starfruit to your diet.
Hope your fruit contain black currants, chockeberries & chokecherries, blueberries and blackberries, tho. You’ll need plenty of antioxidants to stand the sun’s rays.
