Does anyone have or had Discitis or diskitis?
I’m just curious if anyone out there has had discitis and how long you were on antibiotics..? I just had my 5th surgery in my lumbar and they removed the hardware from a previous fusion to get at the infection. They do claim to have gotten most or all of the infection, but I have to infuse with Vancomycin 1250mg every day every 12 hours. It sucks.
I heard 1 in 400 people get this. I don’t know if there is any truth to that, but lucky me. Tumors in my spine and now a really deadly infection.

My friend had a staph infection on her spine, but her’s just happened out of nowhere. She went to her MD because of a back ache, but she also had a temp and her BP was up. The doc ran stat bloodwork and something was obviously really wrong, so he sent her to the ER in an ambulance. They did an MRI and saw a mass. It was a huge staph infection. She ad surgery to clean out the infection, was hospitalized 5 days and off work 12 weeks.
She recovered completely, but those first few weeks at home were really hard. She was one sick girl. So yeah, you’ll recover but it’ll take time.

It sounds like you have a hospital contracted infection, what is it MRSA??? or Staph? Do you have a picc line or are you taking this medications by mouth? Discitis is serious stuff…. and I don’t buy the 1 in 400 statistic… who told you that? Your surgeon??? I’ve had 4 spinal surgeries, 1 360/3 level fusion L2 thru L5 and 3 Laminectomies and I’ve never ever had any kind of infection…. it sounds like a hospital issue to me.
